Still enjoying my vacation. Ice cream, parks, museums, and good weather. Still, I managed to assembly two boards (yeah, the flatiron soldering project works!) Now testing FRAM (512 bytes only, but can be written 1012 times, and at 35°C can retain data 200 years, and it is really RAM). Very funny addressing of internal memory …

Flat Iron for PCB soldering (WIP)
My VFD demonstrator (on-table clock) is almost ready I plan to add BME280 for temperature/RH/pressure measurement… But Flat-Iron soldering plate project takes my mind… I started from smaller things, like HD44780, and was surprised, how crapy some libraries are… I’ve checked first, older one, and this was horrible. A lot of peaks, long transmission (3.5ms!) …
VFD display is up & running
Everything is placed, some code lines are written… Let’s see, what we have now:
VFD driver ready to be ordered
I hope, this thing is ready (after many iterations and small improvements and also multiple new uploads to JLCPCB)… Designed for FV651G display Used PT6315 driver SN6505 push-pull driver to generate 30Vdc anode voltage and 2.7Vac cathode voltage Some LEDs and buttons 3V3 LDO FRAM Oscillators USB with filter Header for 64 pins Place for …
Experimenting with SN6505
Last week I played a lot with SN6505 from TI… So much power in so small SOT23-6. First and foremost, power source for VFD display (30VDC anode voltage, and ~2.5VAC for cathode)… Efficiency at max current 95%! Amazing. Let’s try to get more power!
PCB ordered
I decided to order multiple PCB, to save some shipping cost, and also to test some my ideas too… One of them – DC-DC push-pull converter on SN6505 to power up my VFD. I ordered some Epcos N87 rings, done some calculations in Lite-CalcIT, also researched some available info, and even found a nice book …
Playing with Fusion 360 (instead of designing electronics)
I have a problem. I already prepared things for Phono Preamp (filled shopping card on Digikey and uploaded gerbers to JLCPCB). But to save on delivery, I wanted to order more PCBs at once… So, I brought to life my old projects. Home audio system Badaboom. I already bought some nice neat VFD displays from …
