Enjoying spring in Vienna

Autumn in Vienna is not very impressive. You don’t get really colorful trees, they all get the “rusty” look, just with some exceptions.

But spring! Spring is amazing. You get a lot of flowers, trees, and bushes, each after another, in different colors, different sizes…

And also fresh green leaves in different color-tones slowly appear on the trees. You can see through the still-naked nature, feel the sun’s warmth, and enjoy stunning sunrises and sunsets.

Control Theory

This week was under the title “control theory”.

Unfortunately, I didn’t understand this topic well at the university, these s-planes and z-transforms were purely black magic. And I couldn’t connect them meaningfully together.

But thanks to XXI century and youtube, you can find amazing things.

Like Phil’s Lab, where I’ve learned about applying z & s-transforms: https://www.youtube.com/@PhilsLab

And then he mentioned a channel from Brian Douglas, where he explains Classical Control Theory:

This is amazing! This is really eye-opening to me. Finally, I understand this (or at least I’m thinking, what I understand this).

Exponents, sinusoids, s-transforms, RHP poles, zeros, bode plots… With every video, something clicks, as if the next brick is put into the place.

Thank you, Brian, and thank you, Phil! Bye, I’m going to watch all youtube now!

Motivation

  • To learn something new (theoretically)
  • To understand what I’ve learned (do it practically)
  • To explain what I’ve learned (perfect check, if I really got it right)

This moves me. And doesn’t matter, if it is something small or incredibly complex.

Too much?

I have too many ideas. Too many hobbies. To many TODOs.

And I want to do them at the same time. And of course, I can’t even imagine, where to start.

I have more than 500 tasks in my todoist. Many of them are recurring. Crazy. And somehow I only keep adding them ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

But hobbies. I want to do everything at the same time.

Let’s see:

python, tkinter & co

Last two weeks evenings I spent programming in python. No, let’s start from the beginning: some weeks ago I conducted some tests with an oscilloscope, and we have a lovely old app to copy and annotate screenshots. But this app has some annoying bugs, and some functions simply don’t work.

So, the last two weeks evenings I spent programming in python. Writing new, better, feature-rich, app. And fixing the most annoying bugs.

On this way, I learned some new things, and want to document these learnings.

Year recap

Certain events after 24 February made me uncomfortable posting anything on this blog. But I think it is time to restart the whole thing again.

My purpose for this blog – is to practice my writing and English skills, document my life a bit, and maybe share some findings and knowledge.

This year was… very different. Some experiments with electronics (sadly, not so much as I wanted it to be). A lot of cycling. A lot of new activities. A lot of uncertainties.

So, at the beginning of the year, I purchased a used bike, for gravel roads and the city.

Franz-Otto von Xylophone (or MuddyFox)

And although I started really late in the year, it was my most-bike-ridden year (4 400 km, almost 20 000hm of elevation, 200 hours in the saddle). 2x 100km rides, and 1x 160km ride (to the Bratislava and back).

So this post is more or less a picture gallery of my year-on-the-bike.
